Social Media in Higher Education

I came across this really interesting blog post by Malinka Ivanova. This post presents a number of different reports about social media technologies in Higher Education. The reports focus on technologies being adopted or rather not adopted and some of the challenges being faced by this sector.

Do you believe Higher Education Institutions should adopt social media technologies such as blogs in their teaching and learning?

  1. Hi Lina, i definately agree with what you are saying that students should teach their parents how to use new technology becuase it will not only benefit the parents but also the students because if they are able to teach their parents about technology that means they understand it themselves. in fact i think it is a creative way to introduce techonolgy in the classroom, where students can research about a particular communication site and be assessed on how they teach it to their parents.
I also agree about wiki it is very simple and straight forward, where everything that you need is located right infront of you and theres no complications =)

  2. It's interesting that technology whether we like it or not is part of life that can't be ignored. My 89 year old mother-in-law has never owned or used a microwave and now finds herself needing to because it's not safe to use the oven and stove top. Not social media technology I know, however there's a principal here that when we keep up with technology we are likely to understand how it works and the gap between knowing and not knowing is reduced. As demanding as it has been for me to bridge this gap I'm grateful for the challenge and the support to meet it through this technology unit.
